Introductory post.
Food to me means one main thing, family. You can’t tell me that when you’re with your
family food isn't involved. All of my greatest memories happen with my family
and one of my favorite family memories had to do with food.
It was a beautiful Christmas morning. The grass was covered in snow and the
trees were frosted white. My christmas morning started out just like any other
christmas morning. My younger brother and sister came running into my room to
wake me up so we could all go see our presents at the same time. That was the
rule at our house, we had to go together to see our presents. After they had
hastily woke me up we ran down the stairs into the family room to see what was
under the tree. I remember exactly what I got this Christmas, a new dirt bike,
an easy bake oven, and my own new makeup. I was so excited about the makeup
because i had never had my own before. After we had opened out presents at my
moms house we drove down the road to my dads house. This was the first christmas
that my parents were divorced. As we pulled in our dad was waiting for us right
at the door. I remember walking through the kitchen through to dining room and
finally into the living room to see that i had a new cell phone sitting under
the tree!! After opening all of our presents from our parents it was time to go
to my Granny and Pompy’s house for a family gathering and some great food. We
arrived around 1:30 p.m. As soon as i walked in i could smell all the different
aromas of all the foods my Granny had been cooking. I could smell the ham, all
the different types of potatoes, and the green bean casserole, which was my
favorite, and many other foods as well. At my Granny’s house we do the food in a
buffet style, so we all stood in a line waiting to get our fair share of this
delicious foo. I remember seeing my Aunt helping my little cousins get food
because they couldn't reach the countertop yet! After we all got our food and
were sitting down at the table we said grace and begun to dig in. About an hour
passed after we had finished eating and the adults finished telling all of their
“funny” stories from their past and that had happened to them in the past year.
I even got to slip in one of my exhilarating stories about the drama of the
fourth grade.
After everyone had cleaned up all of their dishes my Granny started to look
at all of the leftovers and said “there is just no way we need to keep all of
this food, there is just too much,”
Now my Granny always had a problem with cooking way too much food but this time she
went way overboard. We didn't want to throw it away and there was too much to
just give the rest out to the family. So we weighed out our options and the
adults decided that it would be a great family event if you took the rest of our
food to a homeless shelter and share the food with the families that couldn't
afford to have a nice Christmas meal. At first i really didn't want to do this
at all because I thought all homeless people were super creepy and scary. We
took our food all the way to columbus where my Aunt lives. It was so great to
see how much of an impact that one small gesture can make. This food made a lot
of people Christmas and that made my Christmas so special too. Food means Family
to me because of the great memory i have with my own family as well as the
families of the homeless people I helped that day.
