Imagine biting into a cheeseburger from McDonald’s. Now imagine that the beef used in that burger, was not made of a real cow. Animal cloning has become a very controversial topic for many reasons. People for animal cloning say that it is a good way to attempt to feed the growing population, they also say that animal cloning will help to stop diseases in the animals. To me, animal cloning is not only morally wrong, but outright disgusting. I am completely against any type of animal cloning because of my morals but also against it because of all the negative effects on the animals and possibly the consumer. Negative effects include, large outbreaks of disease, it is painful for the animals, it still is not safe, and a possible interference with natural evolution. Cloning is morally wrong, it makes humans “play God,” and also for animals rights.
Because of the animals being cloned, each animal would be so closely related in DNA that any disease would greatly affect the health of every animal cloned. Since any disease would almost kill off every cloned animal it is still completely pointless to attempt to clone. The disease is easy spread throughout the cloned animals because once it has learned to live in one cloned animal it has learned to live in them all. Thus, many types of antibiotics will have to be used to keep the cloned animals healthy inturn, making antibiotics for humans less effective. Although, pro-cloning supporters believe that cloning will make is so each animal is perfect and will not be able to get a disease. This is false, because any animal is prone to disease, from the air, bacteria, anything. Once one of the animals contracts a disease then every other clone is acceptable to it.
Animal cloning is painful to the animals. There are many different things that cause pain when cloning an animal. Animal cloning supporters argue that the cloned animals are born and live a regular life just like regularly bred animals do. Only problem is that the cloned animal causes pain to the surrogate mother. Cloning involves painful procedures. To me the pain that is produced is not worth having cloned animals. The egg 'donors' or surrogate mothers have to get painful hormone treatments to shape their reproductive cycles. These animals also have surgery to harvest eggs or implant embryos, plus the surrogate mothers endure an additional surgery to deliver the baby. Why clone animals if it causes pain every single time?
A large number of animals are used to produce each clone. Because most of cloning attempts fail to produce a healthy cloned animal, thousands of embryos and hundreds of egg 'donors' and surrogate mothers are used. Because of this the clone is not as healthy as a regularly bred animal. A very few amount of cloned animals are born healthy, and of these few that are healthy, rarely survive after birth. Of the few who are born alive, many suffer health problems and soon die. I don't think it is worth it to put all of these real animals though pain for a very small amount of cloned animals to live and be healthy. If the rate of healthy animals rose using cloning it would be a different story. Cloning supporters have no argue against this point.
Cloning animals can have an affect on natural evolution. Supposedly, by cloning animals, the cloned animal would become perfect which would cause the real animal to have no reason to evolve at all. Because of the outcome many people arguing that we are playing God. This usually is never a good thing and its the same in this case. No one wants anyone else to think that they can play God, it is disrespectful. Cloning is morally wrong and when i think of my morals i think of God. Playing God, and cloning animals is morally wrong to me and disrespectful. By perfecting the cloned animal there will no longer be a need for the real animal. The only thing that the real animal will be needed for is the birth and caring of the clone until it is born.
Animal cloning is wrong for many reasons, but my main reason is that I think it goes against many of my morals. I believe that the only creator should be God, not man. With these clones each scientist is playing god and try to make the best clone. If cloning is not yet safe it should not be so widely tested on animals. Putting the animals though pain every single time they try cloning is not okay. Cloning should not be so widely tested on animals if it continues to fail and continues to put the animals in pain. As far as I am concerned there are no plus sides to cloning at this point in time. It is not safe, very painful, can cause a large outbreak of disease, and it has negative effects on natural evolution. Cloning should be outlawed or banned because of all the negative sides
